Families of 5 or more can find it challenging to locate resort accommodations that meet their size and budget. The standard rooms at the resorts only accommodate 4 people. However, for large families with young children, the ability to stay on property allows them to take advantage of those sanity-saving, on-property extras.  Below, we’ve provided you with a list of on-property Disney resorts for large families or groups of 5 or more. 

Note! Maximum capacity does not include children in cribs. Every standard room can accommodate 5 people if one of those is a child under 3 in a crib. Play Yards (Pack ‘N Play cribs) are available on a first come first serve basis at all resorts. Alternatively, you can rent them from baby equipment rental companies in the Orlando area.

Value Resorts

Disney’s Art of Animation Family Suites – Sleeps up to 6 adults

Art of Animation was made for families with young children on a budget. Measuring 560 square feet, Art of Animation Family Suites are approximately double the size of a standard Value category room and slightly more spacious than a cabin at Fort Wilderness Resort.

Disney’s All Star Music Family Suites – Sleeps up to 6 adults

All Star Music has a limited number of family suites but they can be hard to get during the busy season. 

  • Master Bedroom: Queen Bed
  • Family Room: 1 Double Sleeper Sofa , Convertible Twin ottoman and Convertible Twin Chair
  • Kitchenette: Microwave, small fridge, coffee maker
  • 2 Separate Bathrooms

Family suites at these two value resorts are more expensive than booking two standard value rooms and requesting connecting/adjoining rooms however you are guaranteed to be together in one room.

Another option at the All Star and Pop Century resorts is inter-connecting rooms. If you have two adults in your party, who live in the same residence (ie. Mom and Dad or Grandma and Grandpa), and any number of children, you can book two connecting rooms and Disney will guarantee that your rooms will be connecting.

Where it gets tricky is when you have three adults or more on the reservation (Mom, Dad and any person over 18 years old), plus any number of children.  You will have to make two separate reservations. Then Disney will then link them together in what they refer to as a “Travel With” reservation.  Which means they will bend over backwards to get you connecting rooms, but they’re not guaranteed. 

Moderate Resorts

Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside 

Some resort rooms contain two queen-size beds and sleep four. However, most rooms in the Alligator Bayou section of the resort also include a Murphy bed designed to fit a child age 9 or under. At 314 square feet, these rooms are somewhat small for a family of five. Disney will guarantee you one of those rooms when you make your reservation if you are traveling in a party of five.  Also note that these trundle beds are made for children under 9 years old.

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort 

The cabins have a full-sized kitchen, and housekeeping will do your dishes.  The setting is very peaceful and quiet, and each cabin has a deck and a grill for barbecuing. One downside though is that these cabins are  located far from the theme park action. But, there are many fun outdoor activities, great dining, and the popular Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue.

Deluxe Villas

If you require even more room, you can look into the Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts, which are part of the Disney Vacation Club properties (time share). The one downside to booking a villa is it could be a budget-buster. Villas are part of the Deluxe resorts so that guests can take advantage of the resort amenities. These rooms also come with fully equipped kitchens, separate bedrooms, multiple bathrooms and sometime laundry rooms.
